Proposed Tax Reforms Ignite IYPF’s Call for Economic Realignment in Igbo Land

The Igbo Youth Progressive Forum (IYPF) has unveiled a comprehensive economic realignment strategy aimed at strengthening the South-East region’s economic autonomy. The initiative, announced during a recent press release, focuses on two major economic pillars: the relocation of corporate headquarters to Igboland and the strategic utilization of the Onitsha River Port.

At the core of IYPF’s proposal is a call for Igbo business leaders to relocate their corporate headquarters to South-Eastern states. This strategic move, according to the organization, aligns with Nigeria’s proposed tax reform bill that emphasizes derivation and consumption-based revenue sharing. The relocation would ensure that tax revenues generated from businesses contribute directly to the region’s development.

The second crucial component of the strategy centers on maximizing the potential of the Onitsha River Port. IYPF urges South-Eastern importers and exporters to redirect their shipping containers through this strategic waterway, describing it as an underutilized asset capable of transforming regional commerce and reducing logistical challenges.

National President Comrade Victor Onuoha Ukeh emphasizes that this economic realignment transcends mere business strategy, representing a pathway to regional economic sovereignty. The organization calls on South-East state governments to facilitate this transition by implementing business-friendly policies and creating incentives for corporate relocation.

This initiative, IYPF maintains, positions the South-East to emerge as a formidable economic hub within Nigeria’s federal structure, leveraging the region’s renowned entrepreneurial spirit and commercial expertise.

The Igbo Youth Progressive Forum (IYPF) has outlined a bold economic initiative to reposition the South-East region as a thriving economic powerhouse. In a recent press statement, IYPF called on Igbo business leaders to take decisive steps toward fostering regional growth by relocating their corporate headquarters to the South-East and leveraging the Onitsha River Port as a critical trade hub.

IYPF believes relocating corporate headquarters to South-Eastern states is vital in light of Nigeria’s proposed tax reform, which emphasizes revenue allocation based on derivation and local consumption. Such a move would ensure taxes paid by businesses directly benefit the infrastructural, social, and economic development of the South-East region, strengthening its economic resilience.

The organization also advocates for a strategic shift in import and export logistics, urging businesses to utilize the Onitsha River Port. Describing the port as a dormant economic asset, IYPF highlights its potential to unlock opportunities for job creation, infrastructure development, and reduced reliance on congested ports in other regions.

Comrade Victor Onuoha Ukeh, National President of IYPF, stressed that this call is not merely about economic strategy but about securing the future of the Igbo community. He urged South-East state governments to support this initiative through favorable policies, improved security, and tax incentives for businesses relocating to the region.

IYPF envisions the South-East as a self-reliant economic bloc within Nigeria, driven by the innovative and industrious spirit of the Igbo people. Through collective action and strategic investments, the organization believes the South-East can emerge as a beacon of economic prosperity and regional pride.
